March 03, 2010 Mumbai: Karmic Lifesciences, a leading Mumbai based Contract Research Organization has appointed Dr. Shreekant Sapatnekar as Medical Director & Chief Operating Officer of the Indian arm of the business. Dr. Sapatnekar will be largely responsible for the overall operational activities of Karmic and will provide medical oversight and leadership for the current and expanding operations of Karmic in India. The appointment will further reinforce Karmics’ expertise and capabilities in the Clinical Operations, Clinical Data Management and Medical Writing space.

Dr. Sapatnekar brings to Karmic an illustrious track record of over 30 years of professional experience in Medical Practice, Clinical Research & Education alongwith with 5 post graduate degrees including a double MD (MD in Internal Medicine & MD in Community Medicine), Diploma in Public Health, Diploma in Industrial Health and a Diploma in Management from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute, Mumbai.

He has previously held key positions including Director of the prestigious Haffkine Institute for Training Research & Testing at Mumbai and Founder Director & Dean of Clinical Research Education and Management Academy (CREMA). He comes with diverse experience in Medical Education, Public Health and Hospital Administration. After being Professor of Community Medicine for 11 years, he became Joint Director Medical Education for 5 years. He has also been Vice-Chancellor’s nominee on the Academic Council of Govt. of Maharashtra State, an Inspector for Medical Council of India and Member of National Advisory Committee for Bioethics Education in India constituted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). He was the Medical Administrator of the 700 bedded ESIC Hospital. Dr. Sapatnekar has contributed to a number of research papers and has also been the Editor of Indian Journal of Occupational health and of “My Doctor”, a Family Magazine for more than four years each.
